What. A. Season. The forest is golden, the trails are running amazing, and we still have what seems to be at least two more weeks of riding left. At least that’s as far as our weather apps can forecast. However, we can predict that we will need more individuals to assist the club on next year’s Board of Directors.
In 2023, the following positions are available for nomination for a 2 year term:
– President
–Â Treasurer
–Â Trail Development Committee Chair
–Â Communications Director
–Â Race Director
–Â Events Coordinator
As you can see, this is nearly half of the club’s board positions that will be available. We ask that you, the members, fellow mountain bikers and trail users, and our friends, to think about the impact our club has made on you and your family’s life and volunteer or nominate who you think would be the best person for the job. While talent and skills will be helpful for the position, having a positive and “can do” attitude and a passion for our trails and mountain biking in our community will be your best way to succeed as a board member.
Listed below are short descriptions of each available position:
President:Â The President oversees all club activities. They are able to provide leadership and act as the club’s spokesperson to the membership and community. They are able to chair the annual general meeting and board member meetings. They are also able to provide support to other board members as needed.
Treasurer: The Treasurer is a role that is ideal for the person with an accounting background or similar. They lead the development of the club’s annual budget. They oversee all funds coming and going into the club. They provide status reports about the club’s financial affairs to the board.
Trail Development Committee Chair: This Director heads the Trail Development Committee. They work with the city and other land management groups for trail development. They work closely with the committee and volunteers to schedule trail builds.

Communications Director: The Communications Director is a role ideal for the individual who has experience with communications, marketing, website design, and/or social media. They will ensure that members are aware of Club activities by facilitating and managing the website, social media channels, and newsletter. This individual also liaises with various media outlets to increase awareness of the Club and its goals and objectives to the surrounding community as well.
Race Director:Â The Race Director is a role ideal for an individual in a management position and has experience organizing sporting events at any capacity. This individual will work closely with the Events Coordinator and Trail Development chair to oversee schedule and course design that supports the Club’s goals and objectives. They also chair the Race Committee who assists them with volunteers, equipment/materials, and site set-up is completed for each race.
Events Coordinator: The Events Coordinator is a role ideal for an individual with management experience and/or event coordinator experience. They will head the Events Committee to plan, organize, and execute special events including The Shuniah 40-Miner, The Ozzy 8, and the Spring Classic Festival. They also work with other board members to organize the year-end banquet.
If you are interested in partitioning to become a board member but are concerned you might not be experienced enough to help as a board member, don’t worry – new directors are supported by preexisting and outgoing directors. The committees are also full of experienced individuals in supportive roles. There is also room on the board for individuals who would love to take a larger responsibility but don’t quite see a role that would fit them.
