We have some big announcements for you, so listen up!
Firstly, the Grand Chasm is OFFICIALLY open. We mean it this time. Thanks for everyone’s patience during the fence construction. The Blacksheep would like to thank the City of Thunder Bay Parks and Open Spaces Section for their help with getting this project completed. Although we lost a sweet ridge line, we hope the new trail section will put a smile on your face! Thanks again to the Blacksheep who put in the extra time to get the reroute opened as soon as possible. We’ve got a long weekend of beautiful weather ahead of us, so get out there and shred it!
Next, the Ontario Summer Games are coming up and Blacksheep has put in an Expression of Interest to represent Thunder Bay at the 2016 Ontario Summer Games August 11-14th 2016. OSG Mountain Biking will be held over 2 days and have athletes 14-17 years old: Male 14-16, Female 14-17 as of Dec 31/2016. The posted venue is the Albion Hills Conservation area. Each athlete will compete in a mass start XC race, individual time trial, and team relay . The Blacksheep team is expected to have 1 female and 3 male riders.
Team practices will be held from the end of May until the event date in August. Team selection will be based on early Blacksheep XC race results, SSSAA MTB race results, and commitment to the event.
The OSG is a great introduction to higher level MTB racing. Our past experiences have been very positive, and it provides a great opportunity to network with other riders and try out some trails down south!
An information/planning meeting will be held immediately following Blacksheep’s first XC event on May 25 (~9pm) at Trowbridge Park. A number of you have already indicated interest…be sure to attend this meeting. If you cannot attend, but want to be considered please contact Paul at 767-1860 or email@example.com
